Arson Fires continue for third night near Hollywood
January 02, 2012 08:38 AM PST

NPR aired this story on 01-01-12

A suspected arsonist remains at large after six car fires last night in Los Angeles – the third night in a row. More from member station KPCC’s Ashley Bailey:

Police have no suspect in custody for the current state of car fires. LAPD Commander Andy Smith says police are stepping up their game to assist firefighters in the investigation.

“We’ve reassigned dozens of detectives from our major crimes division, our robbery homicide division and the divisional homicide detective units that we have around the city. Those detectives are now all working together ‘round the clock to try and apprehend whoever it is that’s doing this.”

Firefighters say they have responded to about 40 car fires – many of which started under carports – in the last three days. Police have asked the public to keep a watchful eye while they search for the party or parties responsible.

Weed, pot, marijuana - whatever you want to call it - is constantly talked about in media, in Arcata and across the nation.

Now, a group of locals say they are tired of the negative coverage of the good ol' green and want to tackle it at what they believe is its source - our very own homewtown newspaper.
